The Hammer Museum is one of the few museums in LA that I hadn’t been too, but when I had family visiting they suggested going. Turns out, I had been there once before for a movie premiere, but I never saw any of the museum-y things it had to offer. It’s a beautiful modern building with different types of exhibitions going on at the same time as their normal collections. I’m not a huge fan of modern art, though I have an appreciation for it. My favorite exhibition in the museum is the Armand Hammer Collection. It’s filled with Degas and van Gogh and other artists from the 18th and 20th centuries. Walking through the collection is grounding, humbling, and it definitely makes me appreciate the art history class I took in college.
Before, the museum was only free on Tuesdays. Turns out, starting in February they are making admission free every day! Woo hoo!
(My first unknown visit to the Hammer. All dressed up and ready to party!)
